Today is the last day of Session 2 which means it is Final Project Day! Many classes have been working on projects this week to showcase what they have learned throughout their time at SEP this summer. Students had the opportunity to present their projects and visit other classrooms to see the work of their peers. We hope you enjoy their work!
In "Making History", students learned about technology and art developments throughout history. Students worked together to create Archimedes Screw, Egyptian Pyramids, DaVinci's parachute, medieval drawbridges, and simple machines.
Students in "Through the Physicist's Looking Glass" created posters to explain how everyday objects like traffic lights, ovens, stoves, and pipes work!
During break time, Mr. Farabaugh who teaches "Properties of Gases" created an explosion! He filled an empty soda bottle with liquid nitrogen and place the sealed bottle in an aluminum pan filled with water. The difference in temperature between the water and the liquid nitrogen caused the nitrogen to change to a gas. Gases state up more space than liquids so the bottle expanded and eventually exploded! The aluminum pan was leveled as a result of the explosion.
After the explosion, students had the opportunity to checkout an electric car. Dr. Dietz, who teaches "Electric/Automated Vehicles" borrowed a Honda Clarity for students to see.
Students in "The Science and Policy of Sustainable Energy" had several projects to show their peers. Students explained the design and efficiency of their windmills which can be seen here:

They also showed visiting classes how they generated electricity using potatoes, a lab they completed last week and is detailed in the post below.

Finally, students identified real world environmental problems and created posters displaying their solutions.
Students created their own fairytale characters and stories in Folklore, Fables, Fairytales and Their Retelling in Russia! Click through the gallery below to see their work.
Students in "Building A Better Board Game" taught other students how to play their games. Click through the gallery to see the games in action!
Final projects ended with a brain surgery! Students in "What's in Your Skull?" had to remove tumors, in the form of packing peanuts, from a jello brain. Each group was given "medicine" to inject in their brain to dissolve the tumor. Students had to correctly position their syringe to reach the tumor without damaging the brain.
