After taking time yesterday for students to get to know each other and covering introductory material, camp is in full swing and teachers are starting to dive into the core content of their classes! This morning two graduate students from UVA's Neuroscience department visited "Imagination and Invention." They taught students about how different parts of the brain interact with our five senses and how the brain develops in different stages of life through synapses. After their presentation, the students got to touch different sections of human brains and a spinal chord. They even saw a mouse brain and a sheep brain( the last two photos)! The students asked so many great questions about the brain.

Meanwhile, students in "All About Automata" were making their own mechanical devices! Students used cardboard and wooden skewers to create a wheel that spins when a lever is cranked.

Students in "Evolution: The History of an Idea" learned about Ancient Greece today. Students made model figurines based on Greek sculpture.
