After taking time yesterday for students to get to know each other and covering introductory material, camp is in full swing and teachers are starting to dive into the core content of their classes! This morning in " Folklore, Fables, Fairytales, and Their Retelling in Russia" students brainstormed how heroes, sidekicks, and villains are portrayed in fairytales and movies, as well as specific scenes in a story arc.

In the afternoon, students in "Through the Physicist's Looking Glass," students began making their own roller coaster. The challenge is to create a roller coaster with the longest travel time. Students will use a marble to see how long it takes to complete their track. Next week, during Final Project presentations, groups will have to explain the physics behind their design in terms accessible to the youngest campers. Click through the pictures below to see each groups progress.

In "Building a Better Board Game," students played a few different board games that utilized several of the game mechanics they learned about yesterday. They played Carcassonne (pictured left), a game where players take turn building a medieval town by placing tiles. Players receive points for their additions to the town. Another group of students played Ticket to Ride (middle picture). In this game, players receive train route cards, connecting cities across the United States. The objective is to complete all of their routes and place the most number of trains to accumulate points. The final game students played today is Bang! Players are secretly assigned the role of either a sheriff, renegade, outlaw, or deputy. Each character is assigned an objective for the game, centered around who they should eliminate and who they should protect.
