After getting to explore shops around Charlottesville and participating in Field Day yesterday, classes resumed today, marking the start of Week 2. In many classes students have been working to create visual representations of what they learned last week. For example, last week students "Disease Detectives" read about several different bacterias. Students were able to work alone or in pairs to generate a visual item to explain their disease. The final products were very creative! Students created Jeopardy boards, flip books, infographic posters, and brochures to display the cause, symptoms, treatment, and history of their chosen disease. Check out the students' work below!
Students in "Hitchhikers Guide to the Government" created board games about the legislative process! Game boards were modeled off of Monopoly, Candyland, and Chutes & Ladders.
In "Do You Live In A Computer?" students tested their ability to differentiate between humans and a computer. Cleverbot is a website that uses an artificial intelligence algorithm to allow users to have conversations with a robot. Student A sat in chair facing away from the projector and asked the computer a question. Student B typed the question Student A asked into the website while Student C (standing) answered the same question. Student A then had to figure out which response was the computer. Many times the two answers were very similar demonstrating the ability for a computer to mimic human thought.
