Today in "The Science and Policy of Sustainable Energy," students studied wind turbines. They learned different wind turbine designs, the physics behind how they operate, and the future of wind turbines. Using this information, students followed the engineering design process to create their own wind turbines. Their goal was to create a turbine with the lowest cost per volt. Students were given base supplies to start. If their design required additional resources, the cost of each item would be added to their total production cost.

Students were divided into 4 teams. The results for each turbine can be seen above. Students measured the voltage of their turbine using a voltameter. Then they divided their supply cost by the voltage to find the cost per volt (the last row of the table).
