Happy Fourth of July! All of the counselors were decked out in their best red, white, and blue outfits, face paint, flags, and tutus today! The campers enjoyed a traditional 4th of July lunch with brisket, corn, banana pudding, and potato salad while the counselors serenaded the cafeteria with a rendition of America the Beautiful.
After lunch, students in "Through a Physicists Looking Glass" learned about energy. They calculated the potential energy, kinetic energy, and total energy of a marble rolling down a PVC pipe when position at 5cm, 10cm, and 15cm high to simulate the energy generated when riding a roller coaster.
In "History of Music," students were introduced to the different types of instrument classifications and the history of several instruments. Students worked in groups to design their own musical instrument! Mr. Chattleton played his banjo and explained how the instrument worked to give students ideas to consider when creating their instrument.
Students in "To Demolish, Or Not To Demolish," tried their hand at several different drawing styles today. They began with blind contouring. In this method, a person draws a subject without looking down at the paper. Next, Ms. Glatt gave the students 2 minutes to draw an item. She progressively shortened the amount of time given down to 2 seconds. Then students learned how to use guidelines while drawing. They also tried to draw using their non dominant hand.
