Today, some of the 5th-6th graders in “Imagination and Invention” visited a local Charlottesville Shoe Factory! Here the students were able to speak with the inventor and owner of OESH Shoes, Dr. Casey Kerrigan who has spent years researching and developing a shoe based on the motions of running and walking. In her factory, students were able to explore the finished product as well as the complete process for creation. We observed Dr. Casey’s 3D-Printers that she and her team developed themselves in order to be able to create a new generation of shoe soles. They built these printers in their factory and then use the printers to create the shoe soles. We also were able to see how the team members attach the rest of the shoe to the soles and got a sneak peak at the newest shoe in their collection. Thanks so much Dr. Casey!
Please enjoy the following images of students exploring the factory and visit http://oeshshoes.com to explore the finalized product!
